The chicken foot charm/hand: It is known that the spirit of an animal lives within the animal's parts (bones, skin, flesh), many animal parts are made into a hand. 

People would keep chickens on their back porch or yard for protection to reveal snares and tricks.  An old saying or sign is that if a rooster crows on your back porch or anywhere near your door, a stranger is coming. A Frizzle chicken ( chicken with "reversed feathers) is known as a watchdog in Hoodoo. The chicken in general was often placed in yards and would scratch up tricks laid down in yards or thrown on the property, especially those intended to Hoodoo you. The chicken foot, as an effigy, it is placed on doors, above windows, worn on the person, and in cars to protect against enemies, witchcraft, or negative afflictions.

Because of this, the chicken foot is known as a luck charm as well.
