What is a Conjure Condition oil and how to use it.

Deyana Jenee

In the Conjure Hoodoo practice condition oils are used for anointing the person and for dressing candles, charms, paper, writing objects, talismans, amulets, gris-gris bags, and mojo bags. Also, items around the house such as brooms, desks, and alters, etc. Condition oils can be added to baths, and floor washes as well. The ingredients of the oil create great potent results for blessings. Since condition oils smell very nice they can even be treated as a form of fragrance.
Hoodoo is the only practice or spiritual way of life that has what you call Condition oils. They are called Condition oils because of their applications for specific "conditions" that a person might be experiencing and is considered a very versatile tool because the oil serves as FOUR oils in one anoint, dress, fix, and fragrance. They bring together the power of many herbs and curios in one concentrated potion that can be applied to just about any object for empowerment.
With that being said there is a clear difference between manufactured condition oils and authentic condition oils.
Manufactured condition oils are massed produced. They may contain synthetic fragrances, no herbs, and food coloring. However, authentic condition oils use natural oils and herbs and or made with roots as another word for Hoodoo Conjurers is Rootworker. Hoodoo practicing work is originally an African American way of life. Developed by the descendants of West and Central Africans brought to the Southern states of the U.S. The belief that the medicinal power in natural earthy things is evident in Rootworking. Authentic condition oils are made by skilled hoodoo practitioners. Originally these oils were developed by local Afro practitioners of the Southern U.S. Deltas and passed to the Afro-descendants of the great migration in the U.S. landing in local owned shops of Chicago, New York, and St.Louis rather than by multi-national corporations you see today.

These are handcrafted herbal oils that are blends made up for specific ritual or magickal purposes. They are not made in a factory, but are individually prepared with the addition of magical herbs, roots, flowers and other natural ingredients to a simple oil base and then ritually charged with intent. Actual herbal oils have been made by hand and consecrated according to the tenets of tradition of Hoodoo practice.

Types of Oils

There are several basic kinds of oils that you might encounter these include ritual oils, condition oils, anointing oils, aromatherapy oils, essential oils and handcrafted oils. Our ancestors used oils in their rituals and ceremonies for thousands of years and because many of the essential oils they used are still available to us we can continue to make our own blends and recreate traditional recipes today.

Ritual Oils is the general name for oils used to anoint candles, ritual tools, material, furniture, money, and other items, and when use to anoint the body are often also called anointing oils.

Condition oils is a term found only in Hoodoo and Conjure practice; it refers to all anointing and dressing oils that are utilized in rites, rituals, or "spell" craft to address or remediate an unwanted condition or to bring about a desired condition. These oils were developed by practitioners of the African American “folk” magic, which is called Conjure or Hoodoo, Ndu, or Hudu, they are also known as Conjure Oils and Hoodoo Oils.
